BULLGUARD GAMERS' EDITION VIRUS ISSUES

Am I 100% safe against viruses with BullGuard Gamers' Edition?

No. While 100% security is our goal, no one is ever 100% safe from viruses with any antivirus product. Unfortunately, people continue to create new viruses that are very sophisticated and often hard to destroy.

The good news is BullGuard Gamers' Edition is a proactive security product - meaning, we catch viruses and spyware before they hit your system. We constantly research and update our system with the most current information and virus definitions to provide the best security possible.

Over the last years, our antivirus staff has consistently been among the first three in the security market to alert the public about new virus attacks and to provide free tools to neutralize their potential damage. For viruses like Nimda, CodeRed and Sircam, we were the first in the world to release dedicated solution tools.

With BullGuard Gamers' Edition you're as close to 100% safe as you will ever be.

How can I protect my computer more effectively against viruses and spyware?

There is no "magic recipe" for protecting a computer or a network against viruses or malicious codes. However, here are a few simple measures you can take to reduce the risk:

1. Use an antivirus program and keep it updated.

2. Use a firewall that monitors incoming and outgoing traffic. Most Internet security suites include a firewall.

3. Back up all your important documents on external drives (your BullGuard online backup drive, zip disks, CDs, DVDs etc.).

4. Keep Windows updated. Remember to have Windows Automatic Updates turned on in your Security Center, if you use Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2).

5. Avoid opening attachments or emails that come unsolicited or from unknown or suspicious email addresses, especially attachments that contain executable files (.exe, .com, .lnk etc).

6. Regularly scan your computer with an efficient antivirus product.

7. Use a pop-up blocker - if you have Windows XP SP2, one is already included in Internet Explorer.

Why can't BullGuard Gamers' Edition disinfect or delete a virus found on my system?

Sometimes BullGuard Gamers' Edition will not be able to automatically remove a virus it has found.

This will happen if the virus resides inside file formats to which BullGuard Gamers' Edition does not have access, like your email archive. Please read this guide to learn what to do in this case: Guide to manually removing viruses

If you did not find the answer, please contact our support by email or chat.

How can I learn more about a certain virus?

To find out more about a specific threat, please visit our virus information section.

What is the On-Access protection?

The On-Access virus shield is a crucial component of BullGuard Gamers' Edition that monitors the files and processes that are being run on your computer. For example, if you unknowingly try to open, copy or access an infected file, BullGuard Gamers' Edition will instantly block the virus and notify you.

The On-Access protection will work for files, processes, email clients such as Outlook or Thunderbird, and infected web pages.

This type of protection is complemented by the On-Demand scanning engine, which allows you to run a full or custom scan of your machine. Learn more about scanning here: Guide to scanning

I submitted a scan report with BullGuard Gamers' Edition, why haven't I heard back from you yet?

Please make sure you type your correct email address when submitting your scan report.

BullGuard Gamers' Edition automatically prefills the email address field with your BullGuard Gamers' Edition username, but in some cases this might not be your working email address. If so, you will need to fill in your actual email address in order for us to be able to respond.

Our Support will normally respond to all requests by email (including scan report submissions) within 1 hour.

Can I install and use BullGuard Gamers' Edition on a system that is already infected?

Absolutely. If you know your system is affected by viruses or spyware (or both), we recommend you close all programs and run a full scan of your computer with BullGuard Gamers' Edition, to make sure it will find and remove all resident threats.
